Like
most families, we have had quite a variety of pets over
the years - mice, guinea pigs, lizards, birds, cats and
dogs.
My
favourite however was "Prince", whose mother was
a Cavalier King Charles, and his father a long haired Scottish
Terrier. Too small for a "King" - hence his name
"Prince".
Sadly,
after only four short years, he very quickly developed diabetes,
and over a matter of just a few days, reached the point
where we had no option but to have him put to sleep. I probably
miss him more because he religiously every evening, sat
with me, mainly when I was on the computer, where he liked
to lay on my lap. We have an epitaph to him hanging in the
sunroom, just above the spot where he had his kennel. It
reads like this:
Fate has chosen to take you so quickly with diabetes, after only four short years together.
No more Smacko treats that you had every single night, as your signal for bedtime.
No more squeaky balls that you punished and chewed till the squeak was broken.
No more cats walking across the clear roof panels of the sun room.
No more chewing contentedly on one of your favourite soft toys.
No more teasing "Missy" the cat.
No more of so many things ..................
